Liyuan Park Through the Seasons: A Garden on Lihu Lake
分享
A waterside garden with a changing character
Liyuan Park sits on the shore of Lihu Lake in Wuxi. Water surrounds much of the garden, so pavilions, corridors, bridges, and planted areas are repeatedly seen against the lake. This relationship between architecture and water gives the park continuity, while each season changes its color and atmosphere.

Spring: blossoms and open views
Spring brings flowering branches into the foreground. Blossoms frame bridges, roofs, and distant water, creating layered views that feel both natural and carefully composed. Fresh willow leaves soften the edges of the lake, and the garden’s paths reconnect visitors with pavilions after winter.

Summer: lotus at the center of the garden
Lotus is the strongest summer subject at Liyuan. Broad green leaves cover sections of the water, while pink flowers rise above the surface. Arched bridges and pavilions provide scale and turn the lotus pond into a complete garden scene rather than a close botanical study alone.

Autumn: architecture against changing foliage
In autumn, warm leaves sharpen the outline of tiled roofs, bridges, and garden walls. Aerial views show how paths and water organize the park, while closer photographs reveal the contrast between red and gold foliage and dark traditional architecture.
This is the season when the garden’s structure becomes especially clear: water forms the open space, buildings create pauses, and foliage guides the eye between them.

Winter: still water and framed paths
Winter brings a quieter palette. Reflections become more prominent, paths feel less crowded, and gates or lattice windows can frame the landscape with fewer competing details. Mist over the lake can make distant buildings and modern landmarks appear as soft silhouettes.
